TwitterNope, I’m not dead.
But just barely. I am quite sore, however.
On Wednesday, the 20th, I got some stomach pain about 2100. I didn’t sleep very well because of it.
Thursday, the pain continued…. Felt like someone had hit me in the gut several times.
Friday, about 1100, I get taken to the ER, where we go in thinking that, remotely, it might be appendicitis.
Doctors in the ER agree. It might be appendicitis. I was very dehydrated and they had alot of trouble getting an IV going and getting blood drawn for tests. They eventually did, and decided that it was my appendix.
About 1400-1500, they took me into surgery. I remember waiting in the pre-op room, and going into the OR… Shifting over to the OR table, and shivering terribly… Then waking up in recovery.
I was told that it was the worst appendix the surgeon had ever seen. It was necrotic(gangrene) and very heavily infected. They were initially going to remove it laparoscpically, but once they saw it, the sliced my gut open and removed it… The surgery took about 90 minutes.
I found out later that if I had gone in on Saturday, instead of Friday, I quite possibly would be dead.
They left the incision open. Yep, had a hole in the abdomen for a few days.
They put me on ice chips… Then liquid (juice, broth, popsicles, etc.)… Then full liquid (cream of X soup).
I was happy once I finally worked up to the ’soft’ diet… Real food.
They closed my incision on Wednesday, the 27th. I was very happy, and it did make walking around a bit easier. They didn’t use general anesthesia on me this time, just sedated me… But the overall effects were the same, I remember going into the ER, shifting onto the OR table… Being strapped down, and staring at the ceiling… Before ‘waking’ as they were bringing me into recovery.
They finally released me today, about 1400. I was happy to be home… (will be in bed in awhile.)
I have a nice set of stitches, and a prescription for Lortab, and some antibiotics. I should be fairly fine while I heal. I am under a lifting restriction… Nothing over 10lbs. Guess that means I can’t lift my little brother for awhile.
Well, just thought I would give an update. And yes, I am sore… Pain pills help though.
