Comment ID fixing.

Okay, I am going to provide this mini-tutorial for those around here who want to reset their comment ids to managable numbers. Some themes, such as this, display the comment id, and blogs that have been bitten by spam may benefit from this. No real improvements in performance or anything, just the feeling of lower numbers.

First, I’m going to assume that you have PhpMyAdmin or know how to send commands to mysql on your server.

Second, run Spam Nuker by Chris J Davis (link if you don’t have it already)

In the database that you store wordpress in, run these 2 queries.

ALTER TABLE `wp_comments` DROP `comment_ID`;
ALTER TABLE `wp_comments` ADD `comment_ID` BIGINT( 20 ) UNSIGNED DEFAULT '0' NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT PRIMARY KEY FIRST;

Someone find me a torrent for America’s Army 2.4…

I can’t seem to get it off any of the official sites since most of the ones updated are sign up services, of the 2 that aren’t, one is always full and the other won’t let me download the file again for 2 days, considering it died after an hour.

I’m very pissed right now, all I wanted to do was play some AA before bed, and I can’t even f’ing do that.

Visual Studio

Well, I got my free Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Beta 2 disks today, all 3 of ‘em.

So far, I haven’t gotten it installed because SQL Server 2005 has to go first, and it decided to install onto my C drive, even though I selected H. I gotta completely uninstall and reinstall everything to get it to work. How annoying.

I’ll give updates later.

I got this theme from geeksmakemehot and hacked it a bit to my tastes.

Yes, I need to tweak things, I am a tweaker.

Species 8237

Spam is evil. I install this new theme. I get it to a workable point (for now) and I realize that the comment pages have the comment ID numbers on them. I like this.

Of course, I notice the ID to one of the most recent posts is 8237. Now, according to my dashboard, I have all of 397 comments on there, and I do realize that I have in fact cleaned a heck of a lot of spam off my blog over time.

I export my comments portion of the db, and lo-and-behold, there is only 397 lines (spam-nuker++). I notice that the numbers go up sharply at the end, so I manaually edit them, drop the table, and import this new code.

Viola, latest post is ~422, which makes a hell of a lot more sense than 8237.
