Today

Today, my cousin, Pvt. Fredenburgh, of the 127th Infantry, departed for Camp Shelby in Mississippi.

He is going to be there for a couple of months for additional training before his 18 month assignment overseas, in Iraq.

His assignment, at last notification, is to be a radio operator, and to drive around officers.

Saturday we had a small going-away get together and were able to say our goodbyes.

Today, before he boarded the plane, we were able to talk to him on the phone. My last words of advice were “Duck!”

I hope he returns safe, but I also realize that he is happy to have his chance to defend our country, and he is proud of what he does.

I am proud of him, too.
